Bluebird’s support for the ‘Homes for Queensland’ Initiative across Social and Affordable Housing’

March 05, 20241 min read

On Saturday February 3, the Queensland Government and Meaghan Scanlon MP announced a series of new incentives to support new housing, particularly for social and affordable housing, as part of their Homes for Queenslanders plan.

The latest initiatives will include:

  • $350 million to create a state-wide infrastructure fund to encourage private market-feasible infill development.

  • A new Ground Lease Model pilot to unlock more social and affordable housing on surplus government land.

  • An Inclusionary Planning Pilot Program to help developers, the community and councils understand how different inclusionary planning models can work in practice.

“The Incentivising Infill Fund will create many more opportunities for developers and community housing providers to build new homes in more locations that offer good access to public amenities such as transport, schools and employment.”

While today's announcements are very much welcomed - as reiterated through leading industry bodies
Property Council of Australia, UDIA Queensland, Planning Institute of Australia and Community Housing Industry Association - it is critical that every lever is pulled to respond to the chronic undersupply of housing.

Our Bluebird team is deeply engaged in the social and affordable housing sector across Queensland, working with community housing providers, developers and landowners in unlocking and delivering this much-need housing. We look forward to sharing more details on these new initiatives in the coming weeks.

For those looking to get involved, our team is ready to help.
